The City of Canning supports the conversion of overhead power to underground power. This is achieved through a partnership between the State Government of Western Australia, Western Power, Horizon Power and Local Governments.

Active projects

The City of Canning has two active Underground Power projects - the Shelley East Retrospective Underground Project (RUP) and the St James Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP).

Shelley East Retrospective Undergrounding Project (RUP)

With the completion of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP), the City of Canning and Western Power will complete the undergrounding of the Shelley suburb with the Shelley East Retrospective Undergrounding Project (RUP).

St James Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP)

The NRUPP area covers portions of the suburbs of St James, Bentley and East Victoria Park. The St James NRUPP is being delivered in partnership with Western Power, City of Canning and the Town of Victoria Park.
